SEND
Wetheringsett is an inclusive school that welcomes children from all backgrounds and with any ability. We believe that all children have a common entitlement to a broad and balanced academic and social curriculum that is readily accessible to them, and they will be fully included in all aspects of school life. The School’s Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENDCo) is Mrs Sheeran can be contacted via the School Office if you have any questions.
All children are different and many children will struggle with their learning at some point and may need a little extra help. This is usually something that can be addressed through high quality personalised learning in the classroom and does not necessarily mean they have special educational needs.
If you are concerned about your child's progress, then it is best to have a chat with the class teacher about your concerns.
If we feel that your child may have additional needs and will require longer term additional support, we will discuss this with you and involve you and your child in how we go about doing this.

Drawing and talking
At Wetheringsett we have two fully trained professionals in Drawing and Talking. Drawing and Talking is a safe and easy drawing technique for use with children and young people who have suffered trauma or have underlying emotional difficulties affecting their mental health and well-being.
Drawing and Talking therapy supports those who are not realising their full potential either socially or academically. Drawing and Talking is completed over 12 half an hour sessions, one session per week.
Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA)
We are fortunate to be in the position to have trained a member of staff as an ELSA. We believe our ELSA to be a fantastic resource for the pupils of Wetheringsett school.
ELSAs are emotional literacy support assistants. They are teaching assistants who have had special training from educational psychologists to support the emotional development of children and young people in school. ELSAs have regular professional supervision from educational psychologists to help them in their work.
ELSAs help children and young people learn to understand their emotions and respect the feelings of those around them. They provide the time and space for pupils to think about their personal circumstances and how they manage them.
